The M46 Patton was designed to replace the M26 Pershing & the M4 Sherman. It was one of the U.S Army's principal tanks of the early Cold War, serving from 1949 up to the mid-1950s.
During World War II, it became apparent that there was a need for amphibious transport that could both ferry men to the beaches and shuttle supplies back and forth.
The new M4A3E8/M4A3(76)W HVSS 'Easy Eight' was thus launched in late 1944.
